How about a live Twitter stream constantly refreshing on a hashtag during the lecture? Would make for a temporary fix?

Ilse and Corne use a voting system during their Business Communication initiative - it really makes things interactive. As the speaker/facilitator, you have to have things organised!

@Zac: Yes, if only more students were actively using Twitter... the majority don't! Facebook, on the other hand,... :-)

@Adele: Voting (via "clickers") can work really well, but it still has the limitation of being instructor-driven. Hotseat allows for open messaging from the audience, hence a higher level of involvement in their own learning.
